Rust-Oleum HOME FAQs

    Do I need to apply a primer before using Rust-Oleum® HOME?

    No, simply clean the floor with a cleaner or degreaser, something like Krud Kutter Cleaner Degreaser, wait for it to dry completely, then apply the Rust-Oleum® HOME Base Coat.

    Can Rust-Oleum® HOME be used on garage floors or carport floors?

    No. Rust-Oleum® HOME is for interior floor use only. Not for vehicular traffic.

    Where can I use Rust-Oleum® HOME?

    Rust-Oleum® HOME can be used on horizontal surfaces that are bare, stained, sealed or previously coated such as ceramic and porcelain tile, hardwood, concrete, laminate, vinyl and linoleum. It is not for use on exterior spaces or garage floors. Do not use on interior surfaces that are sealed with a superhydrophobic sealer. Do not use inside showers or on countertops. This product is also not food safe and should not be used on kitchen counters.

    Will the paint adhere to grout?

    Yes. Rust-Oleum® HOME will adhere directly to grout. If you are using a paint brush or a roller, you can apply the paint right to the grout until it’s fully covered. This will give the whole floor a unified look.

  • 5.

    Do I have to use both the Base Coat and the Top Coat?

    Yes. Both products are required for the Interior Floor Coating System. The Base Coat must be applied first and the Top Coat can be applied 6 hours later.
